Default Automatic's..Can/Can't do's?

Never having had an auto b/4. What advice can anyone offer please.
eg: I'm told it's not advisable to bump/jump start one.

anything else to be careful of?

its Generally advised Not to try and "bump" start a auto, bump start = 3 mates push car you let clutch up to Bump the engine over, with the lack of foot opperated clutch it aint going to happen, buggering the box tho is.

Start it with Foot on foot brake
DONT use your left foot to brake , unless you like nose in windscreen ,or want to see passenger fly out the windscreen.
Expect it to "creep" a bit at tickover with foot off both pedals,
Relax and let the box do the work for you.
Dont forget to "P" it before you Try and take the key out , they Usually will only start in P or N (shift lock is your friend here if you off/out key )

"jump start" same as any modern car, ie + to battery -ve to a Body or engine earth point Not the bat -ve (ecu's apparently dont like it)

I think another area you need to watch is towing during breakdown recovery.

The gear selector should be placed in the N position and the wheels should always be rolling forwards.
Also, the max speed should be no more than 80Km/h and the max towing distance should be no more than 80 Km.

Hope this helps....

This may sound obvious and Andy has touched on it, but if you have not driven an auto before, rule number one is FORGET YOU HAVE A LEFT LEG. Park it in the footwell and do EVERYTHING with your right.

If your 'manual' reflexes kick in and you pump the brake pedal as if it's the clutch, it could spell disaster.
