You could test it safely enough with a D5 by just lifting your bum off the seat with the door open and belt off but remain in the vehicle.

I will give it a go, this may have been the situation with me when engine did not stop but I reacted quickly by applying the brake thinking it was going to keep moving before it did it itself,

I thought that's what I said I did???
Or did you think "not a big fan" (meaning I am not a fan of remote start) was my solution?

Long answer.
Yes with auto hold turned off my car moved forward when left in gear and ignition turned to off (engine still running) tried again with doors open and seatbelt off and still moved forward when foot removed from brake pedal. As an aside: I have found that you can turn engine off while in gear if you hold the stop switch in off position for a few seconds. Strange thing is if I did not put my seatbelt on and tried to drive off, the brakes used to stay on and car would not move until I put my seatbelt on, this feature no longer works, if auto hold is on when seatbelt is removed it changes to parking brake but it will still lets you drive off without belting up. But does not move when foot taken off the brake pedal while in auto hold. When putting my caravan into storage I have to stop and unlock the compound gate then drive through and stop and lock the gate, the first time I did this after getting my XC90 I obviously did not put the seatbelt back on after unlocking the gate just to drive through the gate and then get out, and car would not move, I thought there was a problem with the brakes, it took a while to realise I needed the seatbelt on before I could move. I wonder if this feature no longer working is the problem why car moves when in gear, car goes in for service next week so I will mention it to them. |

I have noticed that I can now drive off without my seatbelt on - not sure how long it has been like this - might have always been like it as I have had no Dealer visits since the 3 month check up.
In my 2 previous XC60’s, you couldn’t move off without your seatbelt on or physically taking the handbrake off.
