Default Roof Bars - Volvo V90

Hi All,

It is that time of year and thinking about getting out further afield on the bike, I'm considering getting some roof bars for the V90 R design - anyone have an recommendations or things to look out for size wise etc?

I'm planning on getting the Thule 591 bike carrier as its £60 on amazon.

Cheers,

AnotherV60

I can’t really offer a recent comparison but I bought the Volvo bars this time around. I like that the moulding which covers the clamps doesn’t come off - it swivels up and away so that you can access the decent sized tightening mechanism. Big enough to grip easily, and no tool required to clamp it to the car. It’s also difficult to over tighten given the torque mechanism.

Volvo bars are probably built by Thule, so other bars may also have these features. Have used them a few times and everything remains good. I recall them being quite cheap too, given a decent deal.

I used the lower profile Thule wing bars on my XC60 - I needed to be careful with placement to avoid contact with the sunroof when it opens and slides back. It was close (worth bearing in mind if you have a sunroof, though I’m sure others here can confirm if it’s an issue or not).

Thanks for the reply - is there a website that sells these or do I have to head to the local dealers??

You should be able to find them on Volvo accessories web sites, or via a dealer.

I bought the Thule Pro Bars about 7 years ago now. I haven't had to buy any new bars since. They are only a little more than the Wing Bars but they can be used in place of any of the other bars.
I'd suggest 150cm wide (I have longer ones to still get 4 Kayaks on the roof) as long as the bars are not wider than the door mirrors.
