Hi,
Not long purchased a 2009 V50 R Design.
As much as I love the car, I’ve always been a bit wary of these engines.
It’s only got 73k on it, but I know these are the Peugeot lumps and heard a few horror stories about them.
Is there anything common I should look out for on these?
I’ve already had the flywheel let go on me and had that and the clutch replaced!
Given it a good look over and surprisingly not much of any oil leak yet. Apart from a tiny one at the mainside gasket.
I’ve always owned petrol so struggling to get used to noises and knockings of a diesel engine’

There is no need to worry.... just keep it serviced at the right time and with the correct oil and it should be fine. Actually these engines can stand a fair amount of neglect but if you do that you will increase the risk of a failure.

There are several members on here with cars with that engine that are well beyond 200k with no major issues.

The main issues with these engines in the S40/V50 is the crappy Ford starter motors and alternators that tend to give up between 100k and 150k.
