Flexifuel T5
On the S80 2009 MY 2.5T CNG Flexifuel model does it have a gauge to let you know how much gas is left? How do you switch between CNG & Petrol. Thanks

Hi Steve, unfortunately there is no such CNG model (in fact there are generally no CNG passenger cars on the UK roads as there is no CNG infrastructure as yet). The flex-fuel refers to the ability to run on E85 ethanol but again this isn't available at the pumps here in the UK (please correct me if I'm wrong anyone?)

Thanks for the reply. I have just bought an S80 Flexifuel T5 2009 MY which uses Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as opposed to LPG as part of the fuel system. It is being delivered next week. CNG gas is available at Reading Bus Station for the general public. I know they are not common but S80's with the CNG fuel do exist. I just wondered how it switches from Gas to Petrol as I have not been in the car yet. The V70 was also available with CNG as below. It will be interesting to see how it peforms. With the V70 Bi-Fuel[42][43] Volvo continued[44] to offer a factory compressed natural gas (CNG)[45] powered car. A 95-litre (25 US gal) tank[46] installed in the trunk[47] allowed for a claimed range of 250 km (155 mi)[48] running on CNG only.[49] Due to the bulky tank, rear cargo space was reduced considerably. |

Hi Steve, that's very interesting. There was a dark blue one for sale last year which had been a mayors car in London and converted to CNG for him as part of a low carbon initiative. I wonder if yours is that one? I'd be interested in any info when you get it, e.g if it is a conversion or factory fit.

Mine is an ex mayor car from Camden Town Council but is Black. It's registered as Flexifuel with the DVLA but does not have the FT on the back boot. I think it may well be a conversion as it has the big gas tank right at the back of the boot and is CNG. According to the seller it's factory fitted but I have my doubts now about that part of it. I am in contact with Camden Council Fleet services who are going to forward some details on it There are two for sale on Autotrader. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-sea...trol%20Ethanol I had the black low mileage one and have it here now. I didn't pay the price on display It does a average 22 MPG on Gas but well over 30 MPG local driving which I am very pleased with. Last edited by steventc; May 25th, 2020 at 23:46. |

Hi Steve, I was interested in this when it was for sale last year, and did some research at the time. It looks like the one on p14 of the attached doc I turned up...
http://www.camdencen.org.uk/download...ity%20v13a.pdf It was done as a conversion (I did find out the the converter, but can't seem to now) as the P3 S80 and V70 Flexfuels were only petrol / ethanol for the UK market (like the red one listed in your Autotrader link) nevertheless it should be cheap motoring! |

That looks interesting. I'm sure that is my car in the picture. All their Mayor cars are black it would seem. They currently have a Ford all electric car. They always use the number plate CAM300C which was on mine from 2009 to 2016 when they sold it to the disposal company. They also had a Volvo before the S80 as well. My car was purchased in Manchester and would seem to have had the after market CNG system fitted from new from the dealer may be from these people. https://www.cngservices.co.uk/index....l-gas-vehicles I may find out more when I hear from Camden Town Council.
