Default HU swap-I should have researched first!

Morning All, been a head scratcher this ast few days

I have a 02 S40 with a HU-655 HU. I wanted to change out the head unit for a Pionee MVH-420BT to modernise things a bit. I've changed dozens of radios in cars over the years but I wished I'd researched this first.

Initially I plugged it in with an ISO converter and an aerial adapter to find only the tweeters working. Then I started reading. I've now ordered a PC9-414 cable which is a 6 din to RCA adapter with a switched 12v for the amp. From what I've read this should take the RCAs from the Pioneer and wake the amp up on ignition.

The only thing I havne't figured out yet (I think) is the auto aerial. I'll research that later though once I've sound

Any advice??

What spec is your S40? The SE/Sport Lux models have the premium audio with an amp in the boot.

That should have the premium audio system.
The front dash speakers are driven by the head unit, the 4 other speaker in the parcel shelf/front doors are driven from the amp in the boot. This connects to the HU-655 by a DIN plug.

You're spot on, use the blue remote wire on your new stereo and connect that to the one on your new din adaptor once it arrives, auto aerial is usually a blue and white wire, but using the remote one will suffice, although obviously if it's a power aerial then this means it will be up all the time the unit is on, and won't raise and retract when you switch to and from the radio function on the stereo like it normally would.

Thanks for the advice gents, sound like I'll be "wired for sound" when the DIN adapter arrives
