E10 fuel
I understand that E10 fuel is to be introduced to the UK soon.
What will it do for our old classic Volvos? |

What Luke said ^^^^^^
No need to worry at all about a 7/9xx Volvo, the only drawback with E10 fuel is it has a higher water content so you may have to buy meths a bit more often to remove the condensation build up in the tank.

Less than 2L of meths won't do any good, more than 2L is just a waste.

Not once it's evaporated out of the petrol and become condensation. Fuel with ethanol in has a higher water content increasing condensation problems. Because the ethanol is primarily mixed with the petrol and petrol floats on water due to different RDs (Relative Densitys) and water being heavier/more dense, the water will drop to the bottom of the tank where the pick up is.
Also bear in mind the air above the petrol in the tank has a moisture content too, when it gets colder at night, the water in that air condenses and also settles on the bottom of the tank. Have to admit, i asked exactly the same question, i did some research to find the answer, hope how i've explained it makes sense!

I have just been reading an article in a trade publication 'Petroleum Review' put out by the Energy Institute commenting on the Govt. proposals for the introduction of E10 on the forecourts in 2021.
It states that 'older cars which are not warranted to use E10 (or it is not known if they can use E10), together with historic vehicles, could be catered for through Super 97 E5 grade, acting as a legacy grade'. Lets see what happens in fact. Bob |
