They're a bit of a bugger arent they.

I got the wheels for free as they were in with a load of other scrap lorry truck and car wheels at work, i also managed to get a set of original nova sri steel wheels and 3 triumph stag alloys too, i was told to take what i wanted before they got binned, which was an absolute touch in fairness.

They were really grotty so just got a quick refurb, this is the only one that has the chrome so shiney, because what i didnt know is that the barrels are lacquered on these, this was the result of 5 hours worth of wet and dry work by hand to remove all the lacquer, then i used brasso and some sealing wax, once i split them ill do them mechanically, as i spoke to the guy in the machine shop at work who has a variety of scotchbrite pads of different hardness that are designed to fit in an angle grinder, this will make the job much easier.

Or you could paint them. I s'pose if you can get them clean enough and paint them with laquer they might be easier to keep clean. Maybe.

Cracked on with my T4 today.

Old engine out:

New engine in:

And how I ended the day:

Still to do:
Refit driveshafts
Swap lambda sensor from old downpipe to new downpipe
Refit entire exhaust
Get intercooler back from repair
Refit intercooler and radiator
Fluids
Buy a new battery
Refit the clutch pipe and bleed it
Change one front caliper (when I remember which one is seized)
Change front discs and pads

Once it started and I know it runs OK I then want to get it to my workshop to swap over the ECU, ignition barrel and all associated bits so its running the right map for the engine.

If that doesn't work and for some reason it wont start then Ill just buy a standalone ECU and replace the factory one with that then get it custom mapped by a pro.

Took it to Leeds and Middlesbrough and Hyde this weekend. 48mpg again, and a 632 mile tank which I think may be a record. Put in 60L exactly at Tesco with FUEL showing on the display!

Vibration through steering wheel is getting worse I think, or maybe it's two separate issues, I can feel the door and dashboard vibrating on my side, feels less so on the near side. Hoping tie rod and track end fixes it, but I'm suspecting CV joint wobble... It *occasionally* makes a quiet ticking sound when slowing down to a halt. Are the CV joints replaceable with used or is it not worth it, just get new with a boot kit?

Summer wheels going in for refurbishment this week so that's another thing I'll be able to rule out once they are back on the car. It could possibly be the rear wheel that's shaking the front, I guess.

if you are getting the wobble at higher speeds say between 45mph to 70mph and it stops as soon as you release the gas pedal I'm pretty sure it is the RHS axle shaft (the one with two bearings). It's the middle bearing that fails which you cannot get a boot kit for. I've had good luck popping a used one in there. Not sure you'd be any better off with a cheapy aftermarket.

Took my V40 to a mechanic today to find out where it leaks oil from. It needs a new valve cover gasket and a camshaft seal.

I thought I'd quickly hit that weird spot weld on the wing with the DA earlier, it looks odd and more importantly isn't flat which is just annoying, so I chased it all around until it was nice and smooth, and it kind of escalated, it's surprising how far you need to go to get all the imperfections out isn't it.

I stupidly attacked the area of lacquer peel on the drivers side too which also took a lot more to get right than I anticipated, a bit like poking at a rusty sill with a screwdriver, before you know it you're well involved haha.

It doesn't look ideal but most importantly all the wavy lines are out of it and as I'll be flatting the whole car off for the respray i'll just feather these bits in, either way it looks better than weird spots and peeling anyway.

The filler has also fallen out and just gone wrong in general on the front bumper as you can see which I'll be redoing , and I may have sanded where I didn't mean to a bit but it'll hide up once it's all sanded.
