As for the insurance, there are plenty of specialist insurance companies who will cover a modified modern classics and agree a final value reflecting the modifications & labour - so you wont just get £500 if it gets written off
Just find a good broker who will find you the best deal, it won't cost as much as you my fear, especially if you have decent no claims & a clean licence!

I have a lightly modded Gul T-5R manual with KW V2 Coilovers and solid aluminium subframe mounts. Did about 290bhp on the rolling road a few months ago. Shem 4.4

Also own Kerry’s old green T-5R which most people on here would know of, long build thread on here I think. It’s got quite a few nice bits on it although a bit hardcore for the road compared to the Gul.

Also owned a F80 M3 for past 3 years and Mk7 GTI. I like most cars modern and older stuff.

Noting Shinsplintz 101 that cooling is king, what additional cooling mods would a stock 850 R need when tuning to 280 / 300bhp? Thanks.

Shame the website ws retired. No idea what its like now tbh, dont do Faceache.

Most of us who modify - and there are a few of us lurking - come here for general information, buy & sell oem spares and to share a bit of knowledge on the marque with folk new to the joys of p80 ownership.

My only comment on your spec list is the map. To get the best of your build get it live mapped. Tim Williams is the best at this in the UK. But ia a bastard to get hold of.

Realistically you won't see much over 340bhp with the turbo & the 2.3 lump, and it will run super hot as you push the boost pressure up to achieve higjer bhp. Cooling is king - the whiteblock runs hot - try to keep boost pressure a low as possible - no replacement for displacement - so a phase 2 bottom end turbo lump 2.4 or 2.5 mated to me4. 4 head works well.

Have fun
Thank you so much. Will look into that😂. Unfortunately I dont do Facebook. Hate it with passion sir, other than that I'm glad too read that there are a few lurking around. Even if I achieve 340bhp safely I would be very happy with it.

The evo 6 is being a bit of a pain as I'm just forging the block and getting parts is proving to be difficult at the moment of time.

But with my 850 I'm in the mist of installing a electric fan aswell a brand new csf 90 ally rad.

Sorry to hijack your thread, mkengineering, but if I want to upgrade to 280 / 300 bhp what other engine mods are required, other than just an ecu upgrade?

18T Turbo
RIP kit
K&N panel filter
White injectors
Large intercooler
Exhaust
Motronic 4.4 ECU
Shemtek map
Will get you 280-290bhp with 330ft lbs

Excellent, thanks. I’ve got an uprated exhaust, that’s it so far! Roughly what might that lot cost me?

Not sure on the cost. The best thing to do is speak to Shem at Shemtek or Tim Williams. I would definitely advise a map from either of those two. They can let you know the cost. I’m sure you could get about 280bhp on a stock turbo. One of the best mods is swapping out the earlier 4.3 Motronic ECU for a later 4.4 ECU as they have much better knock sensor management so less chance of bending a rod when running more boost.

Not at all. What I did was
15g standard turbo
3inch snaab intake
AEM Dry Flow with a cold air intake
3.5inch maf housing
P2 Volvo v70 blue injectors
RIP KIT
Decat
Shemtek 4.4 Map
Ngk Grade 7 plugs.

With these small little mods i achieving 292bhp on dyno at Surrey Rolling roads.

Is that just a cat back or turbo back? The best mods I've done is when I removed the restrictive downpipe and upgraded to a snaab fresh air intake system. With it a Rica ECU.

Car felt tons better on pulls and drove alot smoother. But when I then upgraded the MAF I swapped map to shem for a few months and now I'm on a new custom map.
