Loose steering column
When I turn the indicator, the whole plastic shield is lose, it wiggles from side to side. I took the steering wheel off today and tried to understand why but I could not find anything that was lose. I then refitted everything and it is lose again. I am now pretty sure it is lose when not in steering wheel lock, so I assume that that is somehow broken.
Any experience with this? Easy? Impossible?

That will be the whole column moving slightly, if you were to do it with the cover off you'll see that the aluminium boss that the stalks are bolted to moves side to side, there's a hole in the top of the aluminium section which you can fit a suitable self tapping screw into to clamp it down tight so it doesn't move anymore.

Mine also suffers this but it's still relatively minor and I no longer notice. I was already used to this issue from Dennis buses that I worked on at my last place of work that suffered similar issues with indicator stalks regularly, where the clamp on to the steering column would eventually no longer play ball and would just move around.

Just a thought and as the wife's out in the car I can't check whether it's a stupid one or not, but you've not got the adjustable steering column lock set too loose, have you?
AFAIK there's one below the column. I'm sure I set it & forgot it when I picked the car up last year. Might be the issue?
