Altenater pully removal ?????
Going mad trying to remove the pulley in situe of the alternater.
Can you please confirm the size of the centre piece to hold the inner shaft is it T50 I know the splinned removal nut is 33 splines. Please confirm the direction i should be turning this nut ? If its clockwise ? i cannot budge the dammed thing.!!!!! |

Go on youtube, look for SiRobb, he's done a video on this, much easier to watch that!

Yes ive seen the video .as i said the centre rod he says is a m10 but what is the torx size on the end of it ????? I cant believe how easy his came undone.Ive tried with some real effort to turn the splined nut clockwise and it wont budge .

No mate, its an M10 spline, not torx!
Once you have the splined bit, turn the splined bit anti-clockwise (top toward windscreen) and the outer 33t pulley bit clockwise (top toward the headlights) They are well snug but will free quite quickly once the bond is broke. |

A few had trouble even with the right tool. Plus you need a quality pulley which would cost same as a used alternator - keep the old regulator as spare

But a used alternator may have a pulley thats on its way out, this makes no sense!
Pulley is £40 +/- new alternator £140+ if old alternator is ok nothing would be gained by buying another one. If its not, then you want a new/recon one with pulley. |

It's quite easy to find at the brakers a recently replaced one. Even the original ones, they don't all have bad pulleys, chances are good to find one good for another 50k km. Of course, it's a matter of testing the pulley and see how easy it turns. I've pulled and sold/used several old ones still in good condition.

Mine was very tight but doable in situ.
However, removing the alternator is not a difficult job and also you can take it to a shop to get the pulley removed for almost nothing (a minute job for alternator workshop).

If youve taken alternator out and have the tools, its much easier to do anyway!

Have you watched the video properly?
It clearly says that, "it took a lot of pressure to break" and he uses a jack handle as a lever extension over the smaller spanner to turn the shaft counter clockwise whilst jamming the larger spanner against the ECM box.
