Default V40 T2 first service

anyone on here had any experience of the dealership network for servicing recently? been quoted £295 on a first service at local dealer. its currently 11 months old at 6500 miles and nearly £300 for a bit of oil and filter change sounds a bit steep. is this the going rate?

thanks

That's about what I paid for the third year service on my V40 T2 auto earlier this year. From memory the first year service was similar to the third year service but the second year service was a major service and was around £400.

A bit expensive , the time allowed is less than an hour and the only parts used are oil , oil filter and pollen filter you might want to decline the pollen filter as your mileage is so low . ... It depends what the hourly labour rate is , and VAT kills it too . They will give you an audited service sheet with items carried out ticked and signed ... you get free full software updates and valet and a years volvo breakdown cover ..

When I used to use the Volvo Dealer for servicing I used to send the car in with a big note inside saying PLEASE DO NOT WASH that was always met with bemusement but when you realise the car gets washed with the 'sponge of a thousand cars' or worse one of those broom things dipped in a bucket you're asking for swirls to be added for free.....

The only lesson I learnt from dealer servicing was how expensive it was, they used to offer an 'Essential Service' for £150.00 but that wording would get stamped all over the service booklet...looks a bit dubious.

I think in this case I'd be inclined to find a well known independent VAT-registered family run garage and benefit from the huge saving....Volvo software updates used to be available separately for £29.00 at the dealers (or would be part of a 'safety check' or similar).

Result, local Waylands dealer quoted £290 and insisted it wasn't possible to negotiate as "that was volvo's set price" despite their sister dealership 20 miles up the road quoting £270 on the Volvo service website.
Plus i was a bit cheesed off they wanted £15 to collect it from it only 4 miles away - this was something the Skoda dealership did for me free of charge when i had a skoda.

Phoned up MRG in Chippenham who are still listed on VolvoUK website for service and warranty and are 20 miles in the other direction, and they will do it for £219. so looks like i can drop it off there, do my shopping in the supermarket over the road, fill it up with fuel and drive back for the same price as the local Waylands dealer quoted for the service.
