MOT time
Can't believe it's come round so fast but the S40's MOT is coming up soon (its first one since I've owned it).
Asides the usual stuff a lot of motorists seem totally oblivious to checking at any time let alone annual test (all obligatory bulbs working, tyres, wipers and washers etc), is there anything I should look at specifically before sending it in? Tyres were new 2000 miles ago, I'm vigilant with bulbs and so on... The rear discs and pads are low which I'll do before it goes in although it would probably pass a test anyway. The engine seems to have a bit more movement in it than it used to, particularly when you switch off it's as though it rattles, how do you properly check engine mounts? Reasonably confident for a pass!

Front top mounts are quite common, as are front and rear drop links, although either of the above would have given you the accompanying clanking sounds so if all is quiet then you're probably good on those.

Weirdly I had similar symptoms to what you described in the what you did today thread, whenever I go over level crossings or other rough surfaces the rear lifts and moves over, and it was accompanied with a knocking noise- took it in to my local Volvo specialists who had it for the morning and couldn't find anything up with it, and annoyingly for whatever reason I can't get it to make the knocking noise now!

On the plus side if it turns out to be knackered then I'll just have to purchase a T4... just got to work out what to bribe the other half with to soften the argument!
