Default Incorrect tyre size query...

Volvo specify 235/45x18 tyres for my V60, no other size referred to. Car came from Volvo dealer as a used buy with 235/40x18. I know all about the impact on gearing etc however are there any legal implications? Should Volvo (under their Selekt warranty) fit correct spec/size tyres?

They should.
If it varies from manufacturers spec, its classed as a modification, and can technically csuse insurance issues.
If load rating is sufficient then it satisfies road worthiness providing speed rating is P orvabove since our legal max is 70, but, for insurance to be fully valid, they need to be informed and satisfied it meets sufficient spec. Some insurers dont give a fig, some like to whack up your premium cos 'modded is modded' thus you are now a boy racer.
Those tyres will be sufficient most likely but at the least verify load rating is suitable.

The speed rating is important also. Volvo specify V speed rating for my xc70, anythingiven lower my insurance regard as a modification.
While our limit is 70 what stops me taking the car to the German autobahn and doing 136 which is its governed maximum. I expect my insurance to cover me in Europe, it is therefore reasonable for them to expect me to adhere to manufacturers spec on tyres.

The speed and load ratings are all fine. Had the car re-inspected by another Volvo dealer and they haven’t picked up the incorrect tyre profile either....

To be honest, they *may* have noticed this, but may have decided not to mention it as all the tyres are the same size and are very close to std?

On the other hand, the technician looking at your car may not have known the original size - they can't realistically be expected to know all the various sizes of wheel/tyre for every Volvo made? I can be very (and I mean VERY) scathing about the quality of some motor vehicle technicians, but even I would cut them some slack over this

The size is on the tyre pressure label in the drivers door jamb.... and the checks are against a comprehensive list......
