The swirl flaps have been deactivated and I've had a pipe replaced that runs underneath the car (not sure which as it was a while ago) I was getting a whoosh noise prior to replacement though. This engine system service required comes and goes, normally no effect on performance but today when it came on it wouldn't rev past 2500. I throttled off and reapplied throttle and it went past 2500 and has continued to drive well. It seems to be triggered when going up hill if that helps?? I've just spent £900 on steering wheel sensor, wishbones, tie rods and a whole pile of other stuff so this is really bugging me aaaargh!

Give the MAF sensor a clean with some electrical contact spray (its important that you use this, as any other cleaner could cause more problems). Allow a while for the sensor to dry & then plug it back in. Then drive the car for a while & see if the warning message comes back. If it does, then the MAF sensor itself could be faulty & it'll need replacing.
Clean it first though, as that could work.
