Default DAB vs Rear Dash Cam

Hi All

I've recently hardwired a Thinkware F100 dashcam with optional rear camera into my 2013 S60. The DAB reception is now rubbish and it's obviously connected.

I believe the DAB aerial may be incorporated into the rear screen. So either I can remove it, only listen to FM (which seems to be OK) or fit a new aerial.

Does anyone know where the DAB unit is located please?

Any other suggestions welcome.

Cheers

I can't see why a dashcam is connected to a DAB signal.I googled your dashcam and found nothing about DAB with it.Can you please explain.

Your problem is a poorly designed camera emitting too much RF or a poor installation routing the power leads or taking the power feed from the wrong place .
The problem is not the car , i would sort that side of it out . try taking the camera off the screen and moving it around , you may only have to move it a few inches .

I had the same in my Lexus, so although it’s possibly not documented, the dashcam (or possibly any aftermarket extra) can/will mess with the DAB signal.

It would seem the dashcam lead, or connectors, has insufficient shielding.

Thanks, presume you've been on lockdown too long and that was a vague attempt at humour

Thanks. The rear camera is connected to the front one via a single cable which I've ran down the left (when sat in the car) side of the roof lining.

Not sure if the cable or camera is causing the problem

Thanks. I'm considering mounting the camera on the rear parcel shelf rather than the glass

you should never run anything down the side of the headlining due to the safety side air bag curtains ! It will say this somewhere in the owner's manual , You should be routing it down the bottom between carpet and sill covers ..

The cable wasnt long enough and people run cables down the A pillars all the time.

Anyway resolved the problem by mounting the camera on the rear shelf away.from the glass and re-running the cable along the sills.

DAB is back and thanks for all your help people

I've seen this a few times before.... it's usually the cheap electronics in the power supply that causes the reception blackout rather than the camera itself (assuming it has the usual 12v fag lighter to 5v USB arrangement).

Try temporarily running the camera from the cars own USB port instead or a power bank battery job and see if that makes any difference.

If it does then get a branded USB adaptor and it should be okay (the Apple ones usually work well without interference as do Blackberry)
