yes, I wondered too. The other engines are available on the V90. Anyway, I won't be replacing my 2017 model anytime soon.

2017 is a very good year!
Especially before the end of March 2017.
No adblue. £30 road tax.
We tow a caravan so I will be keeping the V90 for a good while yet.

Unfortunately it is true that diesel engines are being dropped this Summer, because Volvo can’t be arsed to meet ever tighter emission regulatory targets for them, preferring to invest on the development of petrol hybrids and all electric cars. That will exclude me as a customer in the foreseeable future. We don’t all live in cities or the South East of England.

Sensible move, hope to see it across the range in due course.

I have a petrol v6 convertible for the short runs but need a diesel for everyday. The hybrid is utter rubbish currently for me as a commuter. I know it’s not aimed at me but nor does the petrol suit my needs.

I have no objection to plug-in hybrids as such, if it suits a lifestyle/location. But in my view the S90 is not a £55k plus options car, regardless of drivetrain. It's good, and mine has been totally reliable, but it's not that good.

The cost to change for my 12 month old S90 was £10k cash whilst trading in a totally unreliable E Class for £16k. The Volvo listed at £45k at the time.

Dealers currently want £35k+ for used T8s so I would have to pay double the cash balance assuming mine was worth £15k. It just doesn't work for me.

Perhaps it makes more sense as a business purchase?

Unfortunately I just missed end of March so have to pay the higher tax. The car was in the country beforehand and I did try to persuade the dealer to register in then (have personal plate so not bothered about year). Never mind. Only issue I have was for some reason just for a couple of months the power socket in the boot was not fitted - though I have since fixed that for a couple of pounds with a socket off ebay.

Mine missed it too and is a late April registration. Still, not got the AdBlue which is nice and I can live with £145 tax. No plans to shift it on though, and I've got an extended warranty with Motoreasy that covers pretty much everything for 18 months after mine goes out of warranty. So it'll be staying with me as long as that is, and I've had it for nearly a year.

By that point, electric / PHEV technology will have probably become a lot more suitable to my needs and be something I can look at. My old man runs a 2019 Prius and it's great, he's been swearing by the Toyota hybrids since 2014. Bulletproof, not actually that slow and he can easily get 70mpg upwards from his. As soon as I load up with my gear for my job though, the economy suffers massively, so a diesel is still the way forwards for me. I'd love to go electric or plug in hybrid, but there isn't a good enough charging infrastructure just yet. I can easily cover over 400 miles in a day, and whilst there's a long stop in between, there's no guarantee of somewhere to charge up. It's much easier for me to dive into a motorway service station, fill up and 10 minutes later I'm on the go again.

For me it's no surprise.
The S60 for example also is not available in diesel engines and the purpose of this model is to target US markets where you won't be successful if you have engines with less than 300hp in this segment.
The same applies for the S90.
So if they have an electrification plan this makes sense although I think that the B6 engine would still fit within their market strategy.
