Default V40 GDi Missfire

My 2002 V40 1.8GDi missfires at low revs. The car has done around 55K and this is a fairly recent problem. I've tried changing a plug at a time, no improvement. The problem is not serious, more uneveness than missfire, but annoying on a car that ran so smoothly. Any suggestions?

I'm hearing really bad things about the 1.8 GDI engine. Starting to wish I hadn't bought my 1999 V40 1.8 with the GDI mitsubushi engine.

Mine is lovely to drive once moving, but terrible at idle. Really juddery and puffing when sitting still.

Volvo keep making sounds relating to a "coking" up problem which affects the GDI engines after 60,000miles. Best solution I can get out of people is to run Optimax fuel and give it a good thrashing with some fuel treatment/engine cleaner mixed with the petrol.

But there's not much more else than can be done if the car has a "coking" problem, without stripping the engine down that is!

Would love to hear if anyone has good things to say about the GDI engine.

To stop mine from misfiring i use a fuel system cleaner regulaury and give it a good thrashing when nessesary, also keep changing oil on regular bassis. this are good engines if looked after.

Use decent oil aswell that seems to help it not to coke up as fast

Default noisy tappets

the tappets are hydraulicly operated, via a narrow oil feed supply, this gets dirty restricting the flow of oil to the lifters, regular oil changes are important. rover engines are very prone to this problem, and its a known remedy to put half a bottle of redex in the engine oil, then 10ml per 10 litres in the fuel tank thereafter, its not a noticable improvement straight away, but after useing a couple of tankfulls of fuel, it should improve.
