Lambda Light (CEL)
Hi guys,
Having some trouble with the lambda (CEL) on my 850 T5. A short while ago I the lamda light came on for the first time, with the error code DTC232 - missing or faulty signal from the coolant temp sensor. I replaced the sensor (genuine part), and there was no damage or corrosion on the loom side. I reset the code and the lambda light went out. Approx 160miles later it came back on, same error code. I reset it again and it came back on again within 160miles. Since then, with each reset it has been coming back on at sooner and sooner intervals. The last time I reset it it reappeared after just 12 miles. Is it possible I have a duff sensor from Volvo, or is there anything else I can check? DTC232 is still the only code that comes up - across all the ECUs/CMs. Got an MOT coming up in a few weeks so really need to get it sorted!

Are you sure you have the right code?
DTC 232 is for a lean/rich mixture at idle, according to my Haynes manual for the 850 |

Interesting, perhaps I misread the code online, or perhaps there is a mistake on that website.
If that's the case I'll just reset the long term fuel trims? Anything else possibly causing it?

Hi Cookeh - I had a 232 error about 18 months ago on mine which put the lambda light on and made the car smell rich at idle and use even more fuel than usual. In my case it was a vacuum leak as I recall, solved by changing vacuum lines and fitting clips to secure them, I think I cleaned out the throttle body too then reset the fault via the underbonnet diagnostic thingy.
Cheers Stu

Turns out that I had two codes originally, one for the coolant temp sensor and then the 232 - which as rightfully pointed out was fuel trim mixture.
As with Stu's car it was a vacuum leak - split hose to the top of the turbo and the vac line to the bottom of the turbo was decidedly grotty so replaced that one too. Thanks for the help both.
