Default Door Locks V70 1998

Lately the drivers door wont open from the inside when I try to get out with the engine off. I have to turn on the ignition, open the window and open the door from the outside. For a number of times after this the door works fine but then locks up on me again.
Any suggestions as to what might be wrong.???

David

Default RE: Door Locks V70 1998

Our V70 had real lock problems. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM but Volvo didnt publicise it. Our car lock allowed the door to be shut and driven. Suddenly the lock would release and there were occasions when the door would fly open and some serious near misses occured going round bends. Our car had 3 sets of locks. This problem was known about by Volvo to the extent that to shut the bad publicity up the dealers were canibalising new cars awaiting delivery to get the new style locks to keep cars on the road. (And you thought that your new volvo was factory fresh didnt you?????) Wheras our problem is slightly different to yours i.e. the lock released instead of not unleasing the symptom is still the fault of a faulty lock . Poor design Volvo and it is only by the grace of God that a very serious accident was not caused. i.e. going around a corner and the drivers door flies open into oncoming traffic . cheers nigel
