Default Clutch - Volvo V70 1998 2.0

I have a clutch problem.
The clutch is very brutal. When I depress the clutch fully and select 1st gear I get some feedback on the pedal as if the clutch is not fully disengaged. Then when I let the clutch out it seems to come in with a bang and a thud. When going from 1st to 2nd at the point of letting the clutch out it happens again with a thud. It is not very smooth in other words.
Any ideas what could be wrong. I am the second owner and the previous owner drove the car mainly on short distances around town.

Thanks in advance

Hi ya,

What type of mileage are we talking about on this car? Mine started getting heavy, so I used to go to the floor to change at about 120k miles. Unfortunately mine failed on the way to the dealer would you believe with 173k and eight years.

Does yours squeal also? This is a sign of serious wear and possible contamination. You can adjust these, as they are hydraulic in operation. The release bearing may be wearing. Can you select normally in the high gears without problems?

Hope this helps for now.

Mark

Only 35k miles.
It's hard to describe a clutch feel but if i let the clutch out as i would in any other car when I reach the biting point it hits with a big thud. It is not gradual and smooth.

Hi ya,

I would get it back to the dealer and have a technician drive it around with you in the passenger seat to see and feel the symptoms so you don't get fobbed off and then get it fix under warranty ASAP.

Same as my 940 with 60K on the clock. Sharp, no slip to talk of, clutch works but I get a hard grating squeel with feedback through the pedal. Mines coming out soon so if I get any info from the mess I find I'll post it. I have a horrible feeling it is the type of friction material being used as opposed to clutch wear. Cheers Nigel
