intermittent ticking noise
i have a 95 T5 estate, manual, and when the started the car seem fines..}> ... after 5 minutes or so i hear a ticking sound from the engine x( , like a worn tappet. This noise stays on for about a minute or so and turns off. It then continues to come on and go away on its own accord without any other effects on the car. The car drives fine and i have no other problems.
My theory is that it may be a worn tappet... but why is it intermittent, should it not be continous if it were a tappet!?! I would appreciate any help on this matter!! Ash |

RE: intermittent ticking noise
I seem to recall a similar fault as being to do with something like the throttle cable being cleated too close to a bulkhead such that it came into contact intermittently with the resultant tapping noise being transmitted from the engine to the bulkhead and coming and going as you describe. IIRC it was an American who noted the problem and came up with the answer.
All the best, Peter. |
