Default Advice on 122 locking steering wheel ignition

I have a 63 122 that had been upgraded to the locking steering wheel ignition switch option, not available here in the US. I just bought a 67 122 and I want to swap the 63's locking steering wheel switch with the 67's normal dashboard swtich. Any advice or ideas on the simplicity or complexity of this change? Thanks. Rob

There are a lot of detail differences, including the actual steering column and the dash itself being physicaly different. I see no reason it can't be done, but there is a lot of stuff to swap over. The lock barrel for the locking column is known to have reliability issues. Is it really worth the work?

Steering locks are a waste of time, they don't stop the car being stolen, they just mean the thieves do more damage and you have more of a job sorting it if you manage to recover it afterwards. Probably this is why Volvo dropped them in favour of the armoured lead from switch to coil... not many thieves carry either a sufficiently hefty set of cutters to get through the (rather good) armour or a spare coil...

My Swedish domestic model 121 has both the steering lock and the armoured cable - maybe the Swedes were really a lawless lot with a liking for joyriding Amazons and the law abiding image was all propaganda!
