Default Climate control bulbs HELP!!!!!

Hi,i've got a 98 S40 with ECC,only got it a couple of weeks ago.The backlighting bulb on the temp dial is out and after taking the facia plate off and nearly losing the bulb down the back realised it must come out from the back.So i took out the panels below(stereo etc)then the 4 screws that hold in the white dial housing unit and the whole dial assembly was loose. The problem is that the back of the unit has a black plastic shroud on it so you can't get to the back of the dials.Anybody any ideas????.If it's 2 much hassle it can stay as it is annoying as it may be!!! I have noticed that there is a similar thread to this 1 but it doesn't seem to explain the view behind the dash of my car!!!

Default bulbs

Yes bulbs do go in from the back (special all in one bulb and holder only available from dealer) the 'shroud' you talk of is in actual fact a cooling hose which you need to prise of the back of the unit (usually very tight!!).
Can send you Vadis pictures if you let me know your e-mail.

The official volvo bulbs are expensive, do a search on dashboard lights in this forum and you'll find a cheaper solution.

The cheaper solution wasn't easily available to me (I live in France) so I got a few standard wired bulbs at about a 10th of the price of the volvo ones, pulled the metal connector strips from the volvo bulb holder, removed the "volvo" bulbs, bent the wires on the wired bulbs outwards and placed them in the volvo holder then slid the metal connectors back into place and soldered the new wired bulbs to the connectors. Works perfectly.

If you only have the one bulb to do then purchasing it from Volvo would be the easier option - I had several to do hence the cheapskate method used above.

Cheers

I've changed mine with aftermarket ones and they work fine. They come together with housing and are very easy to change. OEM are 1.2W, but I went with 2W and they are much brighter.
