Glad you enjoy the car – they are really a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Did you end up getting the manual or GT?
With mods, you if your dealer is quite picky and can knock back warranty work because of mods – best to enjoy the car as is and then think about mods ex-warranty.
There are a few simple things you can do to start off with:
  • If the car is new take it easy for the first 700 to 1,000 miles or so and then change the oil+filter for a fully synthetic. The Turbo will love you for it and your MPG may even improve slightly.
  • The stock air filter has a foam surround covering half the air filter element – for [supposed] noise attenuation – you can ditch the sock.
  • If you haven’t reached the 7,500 mark yet – there may be a 7,500K ‘courtesy service’. Not to sure if this is applicable in the UK though… From the info sheet on the Courtesy Service:
Model Year 2006 introduces the 7,500 mile Courtesy Service. This service will provide the opportunity to introduce your customers to an enhanced 7,500 mile service interval and improve upon their total Volvo ownership experience. This service will now include a customer offer, at no charge, to personalize applicable car settings to items such as seat heating temperature, courtesy light delay timing, home safe lighting delay timing and remote unlocking function. This creates a whole new opportunity for Volvo service professionals to talk about the benefits of our technically advanced vehicles and promote these advantages, while your customers will see added value in their new Volvo.
Overall, the best thing is to read your owner’s manual – twice.
There is heaps of info in there that make owning your your car that much more enjoyable!

Cheers & enjoy.

It was a '99 R1. I've found the car goes around corners much better than I did on my bike!! lol
Having missed a gatepost by nano millimetres whilst doing a stupid rate of knots, I decided it was time to flog it. I miss it when the sun shines and all the bikers go past me, but not enough to buy another one. I value my life a whole lot more these days.

Aha! All clear now. Seeing your car is at 33K miles – you may want to kick around the idea of changing the transmission fluid on the board here. Here in AUS - Volvo’s opinion is that the fluid is a lifetime fluid and doesn’t need changing. But my feeling is that that around the 40K mark is time for a change. Especially because the transmission is one of the most stressed part in the R. Anyway, depends on how long you plan to keep the car for.

Also seeing the car has a few miles on it already there is a fair bit of DIY maintenance you can do – depending on how involved you want to get.
Air filter – as described
Cabin filter – good to change that can save some £ in labour
Axle bolts – described here
Oil change – best to purchase the oil filter wrench
Brake pads – The Brembos have one of the easiest brake pad changes I have come across
Intercooler, A/C Condenser clean – important because the front bumper design tends to accumulate EVERYTHING in the heat exchanger fins
Leather care – if you have the Nordkap (dk Blue) Atacama (orange) or Gobi (soft cream) you will need to look after the leather really well.

I you have any strange noises or behaviours have a quick search or post a topic as there are always some of the teething issues with the R which are well known… The car will really grow on you if you can put up with the tunring circle...
