Power Issues & VIDA Reading
Hi Guys,
Having problems with my '05 S40 2.0d where it doesn't seem to pull very well at all. Pressing the gas pedal feels like its resisted by air. I noticed when I press on the throttle I get alot of air bubbles going through the clear fuel line after the fuel filter - Is it worth changin the fuel filter housing and could this cause power loss and the issue mentioned above. I read the fault codes this evening and got the following: ADM-000A Vehicle Speed Faulty Signal CCM-0009 Fan Motor Passenger Compartment Temperature Sensor blocked CEM-8F22 Wiper Motor Module (WMM) Voltage too low ECM-0625 Alternator Signal too low EPS-0071 Power Supply Signal too low SRS-0005 Battery Power Supply Low Voltage Now for the other symptom - car always starts over first time but the Key has to be held turned on poition 3 for much longer than any other car to get started. Then it judders/bounces start like the whole engine rumbles. Also when it starts it feels like a slight misfire and the egine shaking. Main issue power is definitely down - the gas pedal just feels like its working against presseure when I push it down. Things I have changed: Brand new EGR Brand new map sensor Brand new brown sensor near battery Brand new MAP sensor Brand new DPF and Eoloys top up as well as new tank for this fluid Oil, Air and Fuel Filters as well as oil for which I used 0w30 Castrol (the gold one) Second hand throttle housing - I have the twin one. Probably spent more but can't remember now. Ok guys any help would be much appreciated and I'm sorry for going on and on, finally no fault lights on dash. Thanking you |

I would hazard a guess at one of three things:
1. Throttle body 2. Split/Rip or tear in a boost pipe 3. Split/Tear in the intercooler or pipe I'm guessing by your description above that you feel the engine is being restricted by air pressure and not the accelerator pedal itself? |

Hi you're right the engine feels restricted as though it has to gear up otherwise it's screaming

Also if the battery is dying would this affect the injectors?

No, once the car is started it is under it's own steam so to speak, a weak or dying battery will have no effect on the injectors one the engine is actually running.
Your problem definitely sounds like it is boost pipe related. Last edited by SonyVaio; Dec 18th, 2012 at 13:51. |

What about the air bubbles in the clear line after the fuel filter when I rev the engine? Could this be causing performance issues?
Thanks for all your help I really appreciate it. |

Are we talking just lots of little bubbles or big major size bubbles?
Some bubbles are normal but lots of big bubbles are not. If you were getting air into the system then I would expect you would have bad starting problems too once the car was left rested overnight. If this is the case then the fuel filter housing would be the culprit. In answer to the main question, the bubbles I do not think would cause the issues that you describe. |

Hi,
Sorry for late response. On idle there is a 1-3 bubbles every few seconds doesn't seem a major issue, but when I rev the engine I get absolutely loads of bubbles going through the clear pipe. I will try to upload a video to youtube or something shortly. Many thanks for your help |
