@Welton...

When I was driving the car to the Volvo Specialist it had a lack of speed anyways shortly after a new onset appeared it was a clicking/ticking noise..

So annoying I listened to it for a while cranked the radio up abit louder to block the noise out!!!! whilst i was continuing to drive to the volvo garage.

5mins out from the volvo specialist it started smoking i pulled over pinned the bonnet up it was sparking vigorously on top only 5minutes out i carried on driving to the garage (volvo specialist) before my car was to catch fire lol!!!!

I will upload a picture best i can to show you all where it was sparking and smoking..

This is when the volvo specialist told me burnt valve on cycl 3.

Sparking? the fuel injectors run at 80 volts on Peugeot CR Diesels, I'd assume the Volvo engine is the same. When you say it started 'smoking' did you mean from the exhaust or under the bonnet?

Smoke from the exhaust would be incorrect fuelling, smoke under the bonnet is a leak of fuel or oil.

I'd guess there's a problem with an injector. Be careful and maybe get another opinion? this garage might know it's an easy fix and pretend they've done lots of work (££££'s) whereas it could have been sat in the yard all day after a 10 minute fix (it does happen). Like I said, a 'burnt out' valve is unheard of.

Do all the connectors on the fuel injectors look sound? DO NOT touch anything with the Engine running, it is VERY dangerous.

Here's the picture you uploaded via my visitor page:

I received the same pic from the OP on my visitor page and I noticed that silver thingy with red ends tucked to the side of the battery compartment, waiting for the OP to clarify what that is .. but my wild guess for now is that it's a diesel power box which could have malfunctioned and caused a surge in the injector circuit causing the sparks and smoke.

Nevertheless, if the valve on no.3 is burnt out, then I believe it would be more of a consequence "of over-fueling?" rather than a cause of this "meltdown".

If it's one of those cheap Power Box things it will make the fuel pump deliver very high pressures and in a slightly uncontrolled way.

It should be said that these systems run MASSIVE pressures in the fuel rail and must not be worked upon with the engine running, serious injury is highly likely if you do not have the experience and correct equipment.

I suppose it's possible that the tuning unit has gone nuts and blown a valve, G999 - was the car surprisingly fast prior to these problems?

something doesnt sound right here. Melted plastic? there is no plastic anywhere near the pistons as it wouldnt be able to withstand the heat. A clearer explaination is needed I think.

If you had stopped instead, you may have saved yourself 1500 pounds. My son once did the same when his Volvo made some unpleasant noises instead of investigating. Turned out the key was sitting in the starter position, so he drove with the starter engaged. Very lucky to get away with nothing more than a disintegrated starter.
