Default leaded petrol or unleaded

I found this advert on ebay

Item number: 280513449454

I thought all of the 240s run on unleaded petrol?

that 1984 B21A will , but the carb needle will need changing every 30000 miles according to volvo's unleaded modification list ...

Judging by the fact they're starting it at £700, with a reserve.. It unfortunately looks like they've failed to realise that the money you spend on maintaining a car (whether it needed it or not!) during your ownership can't really be recouped when you sell it on.

It does look like a good 240, but a high start price and 72 hour collection is not the way to generate bids.

Question 4*?

I'd be a bit worried about what was actually done during the 4* 'conversion' that might have longer-term implications for the well being of the engine.

My guess is that it involved adding an extra or thicker headgasket and perhaps fiddling with the timing.

Is there any chance that this could actually end up doing more harm than good?

Cheers

Jack

For the higher compression ratio engines that was the case but it ruined the engine characteristics and made it even less economical . As Unleaded was refined and improved over the years after 4 star disappeared . volvos ran quite well on it without any modifications , or valve trouble ... my own 2 cars alone testify that 343 1400 30 years old still going strong with 250000 miles and 360 GLT 200000 miles ..

If only the spent as much effort on the pictures as they did on messing about with the engine ! Some decent pictures of the interior and vulnerable exterior bits would help. A more comprehensive description and less aggressive tone would also help !
