Engine revving when declutching
Car is a 2002 V40 with the Renault gearbox and Volvo engine. Yesterday, I got stuck in slow-moving traffic and suddenly, the car started to idle low and the revs fluctuated between 600-800 rpm. Then it stalled and was difficult to start. Got going and it seemed ok. Today, I was driving and every time I released the clutch, the engine revved up to about 3,500 rpm and then came down again.
Any ideas? Volvo V40 (2002) 5-Doors B4184S3 M5P YV1VW15K32F843004

Sounds like a sticking throttle body butterfly valve and/or idle air control valve. Give both a good clean with some carb cleaner and ensure all carbon/tar is removed.
