Wanted 240 drivers door lock microswitches
I have a 1986 Model 240 saloon and the drivers door lock and plunger knob is not activating the central locking correctly when locking the drivers door with the key. Fortunately, it does work correctly when unlocking the drivers door with the key. It is only the microswitch round the lock barrel that has failed. Consequently there is a workaround of pressing the plunger rod down to activate central locking (locks the other doors) and then turn the key to lock the drivers door. Obviously it would be good to replace the barrel lock microswitch which comes as part of a jointly wired set of 2 microswitches, but this is no longer available as a new part. If anyone is breaking a 1986 model 240 and has these microswitches and wiring I would be interested.

Is it the internal mechanism of the switch that has failed, or is the plastic strap broken that holds it in position clamped round the barrel?
I repaired one once with a cable tie and araldite. |

If it is the type of internal switch as shown then it is probably repairable- no longer available new: ~ the problem could be frayed wires due to flexing—see yellow circled area. If you do a forum search you should also find further details.

240 Drivers door lock micro switches
Bob Yes it is the type of switch you showed circled in yellow. That is a helpful set of photos. It’s certainly worth a go checking the leads to see if there are signs of fraying. When I get a suitable opportunity I will give that a go. Many thanks for the advice. Mike

240 Drivers Door lock microswitches
Clifford You asked whether the microswitch on my 240 is correctly attached to the lock barrel. I can confirm it is correctly attached. You also pointed out that the That it is possible the internal mechanism might be damaged. I’m hoping that is not the case. Rather I’m hoping that the advice in Bob’s posting about checking for frayed leads proves fruitful. Nevertheless, thanks for your feedback. Mike
