Default Locked Fuel Cap

Car is a V70R awd auto estate 1999.

Two tyres changed a couple of days ago, and now the fuel filler flap will not release - I wonder if the tyre fitter 'uggered' it when checking for the pressures.
Seems a coincidence.

When the little lever is pressed I can hear what sounds like a relay 'click'.

I've stripped out the boot carpet and liner to the wheelarch but I can't see any access panel.

Any ideas, please ?

Not 100% certain but i believe if you remove the offside side panel in the boot it is possible to get your hand along and there should be a manual release cable or similar. Hope this is of help.

Thanks for the advice.

I'd already removed the panel, and found an inner and outer panel between which I could get the flat of a hand. Only to find some sort of plastic moulding.
This seemed to shield the flap area and a pair of wires passed through it.

I found a screw and a bolt which I loosened, and then 'jiggled' the plastic moulding. I checked the flap operation and it was working again. Carefully tightened screw & bolt, then replaced boot lining etc checking the flap operation as I went along.

So hardly a definitive 'fix', but worked for me.

Cheers.

On my 850,the release loop is accessible behind the cover panel for the rear light cluster-need to use it most times I fill up! Still-I suppose it's extra security against our fuel siphoning "friends"!
