I have suffered excessive wind noise from delivery. After one unsuccessful attempt, my dealer appears to have finally cured the problem by packing out the wing mirror withe everything he could throw at it. I can live with the bits of foam sticking out of the trim.

They use a sort of soft putty to fill gaps inside the wing mirror on cars with the issue. My wife watched them do it.

Can you explain the part of the wing mirror that you bung up to stop the wind noise in more detail please?

I suspect it is where the wing mirror is attached to the door frame.

Yes she said it was where the wing mirror met the car, especially around where the wires go into the car from the mirror.

My XC60 has really high levels of wind noise form the mirrors. the dealer taped up the relevant holes but that didnt work. the car is with them today whilst they do a volvo technical fix of filling the wing mirror with expandable foam. Only got the car in september and couldnt believe the high level of noise.

Is it just me, or is it completely unnaceptable to have this kind of issue on a £30k plus car? Mine is due on 8 December and my dealer is going to find he's missing some limbs (metaphorically) if this fault is evident on my vehicle.

No, but Volvo sees fit to deal with the one or two screamers who make it back into the dealership to sort these 'known' issues than resolve the matter on the production line. Cost benefit analysis me thinks.

There is a bit of wind noise at speed and in a strong crosswind there is sometimes a bit of pull on the door seals that increase the noise.

There is a known fault on the wing mirror fitting that can cause this fault and your dealer will be able to cure it for you. If they deny it, tell them to search for the occurrences of this that were happening 9 - 12 months ago as there were many cars that had this issue - everyone had it cured, me included, and I have zero wind noise (and interestingly very little road noise now I am on the winter tyres )
