Default Biodiesel Fuel

As one of those whose XC60 has the increasing oil level problem, I’ve read the posts on that subject with interest. While the DPF/Biodiesel explanation seems a bit unlikely in my own case (about half my mileage is on motorway journeys), I guess it would still be prudent to switch to a low biodiesel fuel.

Does anyone know which brand of diesel contains the least amount of biodiesel, or are they all the same ? I mostly use BP, as that’s my local garage, but would be interested in seeing if another brand made any difference.

AS I understand they all have the same 5% biodiesel in them now. It is also the case that most diesel is now manufactured from LPG, hence the price, and that essentially all diesel is the same until they add 'stuff' at the distibution depot - theer are some good threads around from a tanker driver explaining how it works

I personally don't hold to the biodiesel prpblem camp - nor do I subscribe to the premium fuel brigade (V Power, Ultimate, Excellium), I think it is the use of the vehicle on inappropriate journeys that causes the issues - but that is just my view ansd luckily after 11,000 mls I have never had an issue

Default Auto or manual?

Is there any correlation between automatics and manual havng these issues?

I suspect that wimorrison may have hit the nail on the head in another post, he mentions about the main difference is how people drive, not the engine or the fuel. I more inclined to believe this logic.

Just for the record it's a 2.4D manual (DRIVe) and I've covered about 9k.

I've certainly seen several DPF cleaning cycles while motorway driving. This is the only time I use the instantaneous mileage read out, so I wouldn't know if it was trying/failing to complete cleaning cycles on shorter daily runs.

I wonder if the output fuel processed to his recommendation meets EN 590 standard?

The mind boggles if anyone contemplated using such stuff in their XC60.

I have just filled up at Tesco and on the side of the pump, there is a sticker, stating 7% Biodiesel.

I noticed that too. If it wasnt for the Clubcard points would probably fill up elsewhere. That said just covered 90K miles in Audi A4 which is less than 2 years old. They recommend the same grade fuel and advice re biodiesel as volvo, have the DPF cycle etc and never had an issue. If the audi packs in say in 4 weeks time will not care as the XC60 should have arrived by then

I stand corrected, I hadn't realised that it had been put up to 7%

(just shows that I am not looking at what I am doing when I fill the car up )
