Default Re-tuning the (de-tuned D4) V60 D3

Hi folks

I’ve tried to understand the tuning terminology (Chip-tune, remap etc) but am at a slight loss - apologies if this has been asked before.

I understand my 2013 D3, at 136bhp, is actually a de-tuned D4. What is the simplest (cheapest)?) way to remove this de-tune and put it at 163bhp? Or is it not as simple as that?

Whatever that option is, is it at risk of being overwritten when the car goes for service and the usual software updates the dealer may do?

Thanks in advance

Dave.

Find a map file from D5204T3 engine and ask a garage worker to flash the performance curve to your ECU. I've done that on my 2011 V60 D3 D5204T2 but I had to disable start-stop because the car didn't have that to begin with and the start-stop function is located in the performance curve.

There were 2 types of d3 I think, a 4 pot and a 5 pot. The d4 vea engine is a 4 pot with twin turbos on it, a small low pressure turbo and a larger turbo for higher up the Rev range. I also think there may have been a 5 pot d4 early on but not 100% sure on that. The d3 5 pot is a single turbo and should map up to around the 180 mark with plenty more torque.

I had a 5pot d3 in a v60 and was mapped which made it feel very responsive. I now have a d4 vea 4 pot in a v40 and it’s a very different car, much quicker and smoother.

Yes and the code names for these VEA engines are D4204T4, D4204T5 and D4204T6

The 5 cylinder engines are D5204T2, D5204T3, D5204T4, D5204T5, D5204T6 and D5204T7

Interested in this too, since I have the MY2016 D4204T4 engine (110kw/150PS). Would I need the map from D4204T5 or D4204T6, or some other?

Have a word with RM Motors in Batley (http://www.batleymotstation.co.uk/)
They're also Celtic Tuning dealers and they will look after you.

Should have added that mine is the 5 cylinder.

I was under the impression that the only real safe option was the Polestar upgrade. £499 though, which is on offer, from around £700 normally. Though I can see it only knocks a second off the 0-62 time, which is less than I would have expected.

Like many say, the 5 cylinder D3, even at 136bhp, feels like much more.

Appreciate everyone’s comments so far.

No, your car has only one turbo charger, D4204T6 (D4) has two. Unless you're willing to spend a lot more money buying D4 turbochargers I recommend a custom map.

Not everyone's good at their job, I've experienced that on a few of my customers cars. Now if I detect an improperly tuned car I reject it, find someone else to fix it for you.

Just an opinion on Celtic Tuning - I was very disappointed with a remap on a Honda and they brushed it aside afterwards.

Found out afterwards they have a reputation for exaggerating their figures....
