Drain screw thread
Hey peeps, real quick question for anyone that's done a transmission fluid change on the TF-80SCAWD
The gearbox drain screw (the small one inside the larger fluid levelling screw), is it anything special in terms of thread or design or is it simply an M6/etc with a torq head on it? A garage has previously wrecked the torq head on it, I need to do a full flush but before I cut it/tap it to get it out, and start the job, I need to know if I can replace it with a simple cap-head or whether I need a genuine Volvo part to replace it... |

I had the same problem and simply bought 2 new ones ( one spare ) from Volvo. About £3 each . They have a rubber o ring fitted.

For your info, what I did to make the job easier was to put a set of Stillsons ( pipe wrench ) around the outer edge of the LARGE drain nut and removed it with the smaller level plug still in situ. I was changing the fluid anyway so no loss when it drained 3ltrs out.
The wrench only caused minor marking to the none important outer edge of the drain nut and I was then able to work on it on the bench and remove the centre LEVEL plug . I later tidied the edge up with a light file. A Dremel to cut a slot and then gentle tapping on the edge of the level plug saw it unwind easily leaving an undamaged drain plug.👍 The part no that you need is 30713219 Don't forget rubber o ring for it when ordering.

Yes my plan was to slot the top with a dremel cutting disc first, see if I can get a big flat-blade onto it and get it undone. Failing that, drilling it enough to get a stud remover into it but I didnt really want to risk damaging the outer main plug... we'll see how it goes. Why some **** did it VFT before, I will never know :-( |
