Default Does the Auto Re-circ really work?

I leave my re-circ mode in Auto and the system is supposed to 'sniff' the incoming air quality and apply full re-circ under a timed control if it needs to.

Thing is, I don't think it really works? I followed a stinky Diesel skip lorry yesterday and the system stayed on full fresh air and stank the cabin out! I had to push manual re-circ myself (poor me eh?).

I'm not really bothered whether it works or not but has anyone ever witnessed their's working properly?

I was asking myself the same thing, how do we tell it is working?

Well if you push the manual recirc you can hear a change in the airflow flow down behind the dash, this is when it closes the outside air - it sounds a bit like a restriction in a way.

I had a BMW once with this feature and most owners said it's a bit temperamental/slow.

Never noticed mine actually work and by the time I've managed to actually find the button it's usually too late and stinks anyway.

My auto re-circ works this way;-
1) watch out for nasty cars, vans, lorrys or bonfires.
2) then quickly try to hit the button twice to manual, without crashing by taking my eyes of the road to try to find the button, which is behind the gear stick.

Mine is a bit slow to react too, but I've found out by comparison that using a charcoal pollen filter, instead of those ordinary ones, helps in absorbing those "odors" and reduces their intensity and the time they linger about.
