airbag light
Hi me again with another problem.!!!
Trouble with brakes and still not resolved, now the Airbag light is coming on and off. Disconnected the battery and checked the plugs under the seats seem ok, but the light is still coming on and off. If there were a problem with the system surely the light would be on constantly or would it. Feel like driving it off the bloody cliff !! :-( |

As far as I know, once the SRS light comes on..... it stays on, until you reset it with the right tool. Does it go on and off or does it also flicker sometimes. Just a silly guess, but I think that the actual light bulb for the SRS light in the speedo cluster might be loose

Comes on and may stop on for a little while then goes off then pops back on again, but it does not flicker as if there were a loose connection. it is very intermmitent.

What year is the car?
ANd also, does the light go on and off while you are driving? Is it possible that when you hit a bump on the road, it goes on or off?

The car is an s40 2003 v1.9 diesel. It goes off then comes back on, yet I have just drove the car to work approx. 3miles and it did not come on. and I don't think it comes on or goes off when I hit a bump in the road, because I can start the car the light goes off then drive up the street and its there and the road is very smooth. So the light is on/off when driving.

Same car as me. If you search in the forum you will find out that once the light comes up, it does not go off. You need either the dealer to reset it, or a code reader. I have NEVER heard of the light going off on its own.
Either it is a loose bulb in the speedo, That could be the cheapest solution.... Or you may have a problem with your SRS system (a wild guess would be the SRS control Unit under the main centre console under the handbrake lever). You can check the bulb in the speedo easily. See my guide: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...714#post935714 I cover the speedo cluster removal half way through the guide, under Removing the RC receiver

Thanks for that, hope you are right with the bulb, I may give it a few taps to see if it comes on while I'm driving. Don't fancy taking all that gear out though, knowing my luck I will end up breaking something. been on your link very good.

Ignored most of the photos in that guide. Its easy to take out the speedo, not more than 5 minutes. First of all, lower the steering wheel to the lowest point it can go. Undo the two screws (yellow circles) holding the instrument panel outer cover. Wiggle it out carefully. There are 3 screws holding the instrument panel in place. Remove all 3. Carefully pull the Instrument panel outwards and disconnect the two wire clips connected to it. Carefully wiggle it out. It will go through the steering wheel gap, but be careful not to brrake the odometer reset thingy

This model of instruments already uses solid state LED for everything that is lit inside. Unfortunately, you won't be able to do much here...
Also have your alternator and battery checked. Measure the voltage on electrical system, and check for SRS power supply fuse and connectors to see in what condition are they. SRS system is very sensitive about feeding electricity, and it doesn't like unstable voltage too much. |

Went home from work no light, went to the garage for some diesel no light, can't understand it. Had a word with a mechanic he put his gizmo on but it wouldn't recognise the car or the SRS system so just have to hope it doesn't come back on !!!!
