850 jumps out of 1st gear
This has happened three times in the last couple of weeks. First time it did it twice in the same day whilst on holiday in Cornwall mid July. Then it happened again yesterday driving through Harrogate after a shopping trip.
In first gear, slow speed - about 10mph - the gearlever pops out of 1st and back into the neutral position. From memory, I think I was slightly on the clutch (not fully engaged) due to the speed and road conditions. Question is, have I just been a Muppet and not fully engaged 1st gear, or is there something needs looking at? Car is 855 T5 CD manual, 154,000 miles. All other aspects are fully functioning, no problems. No signs of a similar 'jumping out of gear' in any of the other gears. Cheers, Chris. |

I don't have any specific experience of the 850 'box but just speaking generally that sounds like a clear sign that it needs attention.
Does it do the same if you fully engage 1st at low revs and then boot it? I would certainly get it looked at either way, better to catch it early than to have something going wrong and knackering the rest of the box. Cheers, J |

Thanks Charltjr.
Will get local indy to take a look if it happens again. (as I said, I might just have been having a couple of Muppet moments!). There is some debate now as to whether or not I am keeping car (to get comapny car, thankfully can still have a Volvo!). Either way it'll need checking out as I couldn't sell it on if there is a problem (not fair on buyer). Chris. |
