Yeah the outers are machined in the hub in the 940.

Not having seen them I’d assume they are still fixable, someone with a lathe could either skim the wear out of the bearing surfaces or machine the hub out to accept new outers. Then again I’m a manual and CNC machinist with my own home workshop so everything seems simple to me.

I think with the best will in the world you'd still struggle - do an image search and you might see what i mean, not entirely possible to see it all as the image search only appears to show intact bearings/hubs.

Half the problem is getting the old one out as the bearings appear to be fitted from inboard pushed outboard against a ridge machined in the hub.

This is of smaller diameter than the outer race of the bearing so very difficult to extract the original bearing to facilitate fitting the new ones, if you can even find out what they are.

I’ve had a look and all the pictures just look like cartridge bearings that are pressed in from the rear.

They could well be but nobody lists them separately and i couldn't see any references on the ones i replaced on mine.

Like you, i'm of the opinion that if it went in, it must surely come out again to be replaced/renewed but until someone does that to find the reference numbers etc, were somewhat banjaxed.

No, i'm not volunteering! Maybe in the summer if i manage to shake this snot goblin off that i've so far had for almost all of this year!

Don't know if this helps. You can see the new part (albeit the crappy one with the shorter bearing), the seal presses into the hub and is stationary.
