Default Thinking of changing to a XC60

Hello i'm thinking of trading in my Focus RS for a used XC60 always been a Volvo man at heart and have had a few 340, 440, 740, S40 and was very close to buying a S60R but the reliability of the AWD put me clean off and i purchased an Evo instead.

Have been reading some of the Forums but just wondered has the reliability of the AWD improved???? i was thinking of going for a drive version which i believe is 2WD??? so there's less to go wrong, but there seems to be a lot less of them about.

Really like the look of them the only negative point is the residual value isn't so good, the RS seems to hold its value very well.

Many Thanks

Bit of a change performance wise from an RS to an XC!

I have had no issues with AWD in the just over 12 months I have owned my second XC. Must also say my first one had no AWD issues either. Polestarred to 230 helps in the performance I suppose, although my current one is standard.

I have had more Volvos over the years than you can shake a stick at, although must say I am not as enthusiastic today as I was 30 years ago. Would suggest you go for a D5, and perhaps have it remapped, which would give you the best of both worlds - performance and AWD.

Regards

Thanks Volvorocks for your reply its appreciated, yes be a big difference in performance but i still have the Evo tucked away in the garage for some fun
Glad to hear they seem to be more reliable that will open up the choices no end, like the RS a lot but its really a Volvo under the bodywork, thats what the problem is, i'm starting to see the signs of rust setting in on a 3.5 year old car has really disappointed me.

Don't think i'll bother remapping just looking for something that looks smart, and hopefully reliable, i've been scanning over the internet and i'm a bit confused over the diesel engines is there three a D3,D4 2 litre??, and the D5 but with different Bhp ratings????
Many thanks

It's a downside of forums that problems seem to be major issues. OK, folks post about AWD issues but the vast majority who do not have any issues, don't post. IYSWIM
I will not say that I have had no AWD problems on 3 cars because the XC60 on it's way will hear it.........

Re XC60

There is a D5 which is 2.4 twin turbo 215bhp, a D4 which is 2.4 single turbo 163bhp,(fitted to AWD) a D4 which is 2.0 single turbo 163bhp fitted to front wheel drive. The older D3 was 2.0 on front wheel drive and 2.4 on AWD. Both had 163bhp.

Re V60

The older V60 estate D3 for example is a 2.0 163bhp whereas the newer V60 is badged D4 but still 2.0 with 163bhp.....!!

Think I am correct! Confusing with a capital 'C'...!!!...you need a degree to understand badge meaning with Volvo!!

There are also some older Drive models prior to the D3 163BHP with a 2.4L single turbo 163BHP fitted to a 2WD (FWD) XC60. These would be June / July 2010 or older. If in doubt check the logbook or with DVLC?
