Default Introducing Helga

Hello all i'm new to the forum and would like to introduce you all to my 240GL Helga.I bought the volvo last year after getting rid of my Mercedes W123 because it needed too much work and didn't have the time to do the work.So onto ebay i went and i found this lovely 240 down in Taunton and after a few bids she was mine.

She is a 91 2.0 GL auto saloon with B200F engine with 118000 on the clock and she is in very good condition for her age although as with most old cars she has one or two niggles chief of which is the reluctance to start on the odd occasion despite it having had a full service including all filters, plugs, dizzy cap, HT leads, rotor arm, timing belt and both fan belts but still the problem persists.

Hopefully there will be someone out there who can shed some light on this problem and any help would be very welcome.

Peter

Thanks dave it took several very cold weekends and a few tubs of elbow grease. It still needs the underside of the bonnet doing and one or two small rust spots down the sides of the engine bay.

Helga is a good name for a proper Volvo. My old 940 (now deceased God rest her soul) was called Helga.

Hello Helga (and Peter)!

What a splendid 240 - love those wheels, working on doing something similar with mine

As for your intermittent starting problem - might be worth changing the fuel pump relay behind the glove compartment. No worries if it isnt that though as you can keep the old one and its always good to have a spare

As yours is one of the later models you will need a 'white' relay

The earlier models are green

If in doubt have a look first. If you open the glove box the screws that hold it in should be obvious - simply remove them and the whole thing slides out. The relay is usually mounted in a bracket on the bulkhead right in front of you.

Always keep a spare in the glovebox as they can go at any time - some fail gradually causing intermittent running problems - others just fail completely all of a sudden
