Default S40 2.o d sport bad mpg

Hi all

Just had my 55 plate 06 s40 2.0d sport for just under a week now, looks a runs great but the MPG is way way below what it should be, well I think it is, probably will get mid 90s on £20 diesel, the car has 175k on it with a full service history, pull well and fairly quiet and smooth so what could be wrong at this stage I don't know.

Driven modestly on the motorway or a good cross country run that car should do 50mpg. The only real way to know for sure is to brim the tank - and then fill at again and work out the MPG from the fuel added and mileage.

Do you get any black smoke out the back when you accelerate hard?

Good morning, this is my first post ever on any forum. Similar issue as above. I'm very happy to say I have my first Volvo. Loved this car for many years. Purchased last week. 2008 v50 estate r design 2.0d 208000m. It comes with faults that need repairing but still very happy. Starts great. But on idle it can have random engine vibration, more like a lumpiness. No smoke on normal driving but when I put my foot down and get to 3000rpm it chucks a massive cloud behind me. This is reduced massively when I've done it a couple of times on a drive, but is there again the next day. Also mpg seems a bit low. So I put 20 liters in the tank and reset mpg trip. it says my average is 35. But working it out I'm back on the red and have only covered 80 miles. Based on computer 20 liters should be around 155 miles. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

what service history is with the car?
What are the faults with the car?

have you take it to a volvo main dealer for a diagnostic read out ?
has it been serviced PROPERLY with the Right parts

properly is As per the volvo schedule WITH volvo parts, anything else will give you grief
and pump out yet MORE stinking pollution from yet another badly maintained diesel
