Default Winter Wheels fitted

Well have gone from 20” to 18” and it’s smoother but not so taught on the bends. I think they look better than I expected. Wish 18 or 19”!were options from new. I’m a great believer in rubber over wheels. Lol.

I am finding this a problem with UK specs, lack of choice of sensible and usefully sized wheels. It does limit my choice of vehicle and Volvo UK aren't as good as they were.

My car has bog standard suspension.

I was actually really surprised how 21"s rode far better than I was expecting.

Although I still happy with 19"s with winter tyres, but with a higher wall, not quite as good as the hem 21's

Are you saying that you still have summer tyres on the rear?? This could lead to disaster if so, and I don’t think your insurance would pay out if the inevitable happens.

Yes, it’s front wheel drive, why would I waste fitting winter tyres to non driven wheels??

There is zero evidence to state that fitting them to just the drive wheels makes any difference, unless you intend to drive like a knob!

How much of the winter tyre hype is just that, how likely are they to make the difference between an incident and not? I've never driven a car with them on.

It is a funny old world isnt it.

You are happy to risk no insurance and crashing the car (and yes there is plenty of advice explaining exactly why you shouldnt fit them to just the front wheels) for the sake of saving 350 quid. On the other hand you wouldnt save 2 grand by fitting a salvage screen into the car because of the risk of voiding the warranty. A very odd attitude to risk IMHO.

As I said, a funny old world.....

Only reason I got them is that in April when we had a foot of snow, we couldn't get out for 5 days, purely down to zero traction, hopefully I'll at least get up the hill which never gets gritted!

My insurance doesn't dictate I tell them when fitting winter tyres, sorry to disappoint you!

And there is no conclusive advice on not fitting them to just the drive wheels. Stop being a dick!
