Front suspension strut differences
Hi folks,
I was wondering if anyone knows about the interchangeability of the front suspension struts fitted to 740 and 760 models? From a quick google, it seems that the struts changed a bit between the years. I've got a 1990 740 diesel. And a set of struts from an '89/90 760 diesel. Mine doesn't have ABS, the 760 did have ABS. Anyone know if they're interchangeable? It seems the part numbers differ (ABS and w/o ABS), but that's not always a great indication of compatibility https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p...7/1359839.html https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p...3/8251789.html Edit: It seems springs differ between engines, but does anyone know if they're the same for 740 and 760? How about the other front suspension bits? Cheers, Jim Last edited by tofufi; Aug 10th, 2018 at 23:28. |

You would be able to use them in your case.
You can not fit non ABS struts to an ABS car as the mounting hole for the sensor is not that. There are two types of ABS ring at least. Bearings wise early struts have taper wheel bearings, later ones are a single sealed bearing. There is also a lot of variation in brakes but if you have complete stuts not an issue |

Thanks for the reply
Speaking with the person who wanted to buy the 760 struts, he reckoned the 740 and 760 struts were different lengths and slightly different angles, too. As they're both from the same year, I'd imagine the same bearing type. If I wanted to retain my current brakes (I don't have ABS and want to keep the twin hydraulic line calipers) would I be able to mix and match the braking parts? |

The struts are exactly the same length and angle.
The springs can vary with engine and model. I would imagine both D24 springs would be the same. |

1983-84 struts are slightly longer than 1985+. The 960 series changed struts for the 1995 model year and later.

The other part number - err, i got lost somewhere along the way on that! Put it down to being tired! Worth double-checking with your local Volvo main stealer though - i've found (and worse still, ordered using the part numbers) a few anomalies on that site and bearing in mind it's a USA site and often they have different spec springs, shocks and so on.................. you see where i'm going with this!
