Default S60 D5 Turbo dumping

This might sound a bit odd just wondered if anyone else has the same happen to thier D5.

I have a 2003 S60 D5, when flooring it from low revs the turbo seems to spool up lovely and loads of power then all of a sudden about 2100rpm there is a brief dumping sound (like a dump valve sound or pressure release) the power backs off a bit and then picks up to top of rev range.

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this "Dip" in power or pressure dumping (like a dump valve sound) half way through accelerating? The dumping sound was more noticable when windows were open.

If anyone can let me know either way or where to start looking if there is a problem i would be very grateful!!

Thanks guys

Hi,

check all you turbo/vac/intercooler hoses......it does sound like a boost leak of some sort.....the boost solenoid do go quite abit and we have changed quite a few

or if any lights have come on the dash then get the codes read.

Thanks for reply!!

I checked if there were any codes stored or pending using my EU702 but nothing was being thrown up. Do you think it could be the control actuator sticking slightly?

Like i said it starts to go like a rocket then all of a sudden its like it thinks its over boosting, dumps the pressure retards the power a bit, but then kicks back in at about 2200rpm.

I did check the pipes to the pads and the back one wasnt even connected when i bought it! all connected and seem to be tight. Would it be an acuator change you think? Have you come across a D5 that does this Mid acceleration mini turbo dump before?

Thanks again!

worth having a look at the rubber inlet turbo hose directly on the turbo,it can perish and collapse or split.

Sounds like the car is over boosting. I would look at boost control valve too.

Mine does make a dumping noise too which can be heard when the window is down. I have been told that this is the re-circ valve and is normal so I would say that the noise on yours isn't the problem, just the loss of power.

Clean the EGR mixer: http://volvoforums.org.uk/showpost.p...6&postcount=56

It also might be faulty EGR valve or leaking injectors.

Stupid suggestion. But have you checked that your traction control us not kicking in. I find mine kicks in too easily.

Dont think its traction control because it doesnt feel that servere a drop and the light doesnt come on the dash. Just wondered if anyone elses D5 makes the dumping sound on acceleration?

It does (weird as there is no dumpvalve iirc), but I *think* only when the geartronic changes gear. I'll try to pinpoint when this happens exactly if I remember the next time I drive it (motorcycle to work, the wife drives the Volvo).
