Default Door Locks Gremlins XC90 2008

Hello Guys

I have a 2008 XC90

Sometimes when I lock the doors using my remote control, my front right lock does not close. I need to press on the remote unlock and then lock and this way it close that lock.

Sometimes the same happens but it’s the driver door that refuse to lock. I have to do the same unlock and then lock and it works.

This only happens with the front locks and is a pain in the …… Because every time I get out of the car I have to check thru the windows if the locks are down.

Other thing that I have notice is that sometimes when I open my door, get into the car and then close the door, it locks by itself (without I doing nothing)

Another info: When I am driving the car if I press the unlock button on the door window swiches panel, all the door locks work perfectly, they open and close. Also, they also relock if somebody open the door to get out (these include both front doors too)
So I don’t think the electric solenoid/motors inside the doors that locks and unlock the door are bad.

Maybe I have to reset the door locks or disconnect the battery??.

I also check for OBD codes with my OBD Codes reader and there are no codes.

Any advice?

Thx for your time and help

Isaac

The micro switches in the door lock that detect the state of the lock and the deadlock are failing. Replace the door lock to solve the issue.

Fit a new one, not a 2nd hand one, as you have no idea how good the micro switches are in a 2nd hand lock.

The micro switches start to fail when their contacts get corroded or dirty, and they are buried deep in the lock and cannot be cleaned or replace, which is why a new door lock mech is required.

Hi, this exact same thing was happening to my 2007 D5. Combination of corrosion and the small spring that fails that lets the door lock when you shut it.

I happened to come across a wrecked XC90 last week so took the drivers door lock out and replaced it with mine. Was a fairly involved job as the clips that hold the outer door handle and the lock are a pain to get in but there are YouTube videos and good explanations out there so perhaps give it a go.

Also, worth getting done as if you are ever in an accident, Volvo's unlocks all the doors so emergency services or whatever can get in and/or you can get out. If the doors lock instead of unlock or just don't work then there could be issues.

Hey SwedeXC90, what small spring you are talking about? Is there is a You Tube video thats show this spring?

You will not believe me but since I write this post, my door locks are working OK with the remote control...............But every time when I get out of the car I still check thru the windows if the locks are down.

THX & RGS
