Default High speed snow tires - Eagle Ultra Grip GW3

Has anyone had experience with the Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3. They're V-rated, Severe Snow-rated and seem to be standard issue on police cruisers. I have 16" wheels, but have a set of steel 15" wheel that I was going to use for a set of studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta's. The snow is gonna start falling soon, so I've to make a decision. Thanks for listening.

Don't think those types of extreme tyre get much use in Blighty, in fact they may not be available. Some members from the northern edges of Europe may have a view. I think you're best bet it to ask in a US based Volvo forum. I remember reading lots of threads about the best snow tyres on

www.v70r.com

Also, have a look through

www.tirerack.com

For best prices and lots of reviews and user feedback.

Happy shopping

Hi.
Not sure this helps much but.. I live in Finland where we spend 8 months of the year using winter tyres, you mainly have 2 choices studded or unstudded -(friction tyres). eg: Nokia: Hakkapeliitta 2 (studded 190kph) and the Hakkapeliitta RSi (unstudded friction 170 kph) are the main tyres of choice here. I think studded tyres are banned in some counties?...And no I don't work for Nokia you can find the same specs with Goodyear, Michelin etc they all make good winter tyres.

I've got a set of 16" (205/55) Continental WinterContact TS790'a which come in both H and V ratings. These are brilliant but more of a general winter & some snow tyre rather than a specific hardcore "snow" tyre even though they carry the severe snow emblem.

The Hakkapeliitta's or the Bridgestone Blizzaks seem to be a favourite in the US and I've heard goodthings about Pirelli Snowsports. Can't say I've heard much about the Goodyear's I'm afraid

Thanks alot for the helpful links and advice. I think I'm going to go with the Goodyear's. Though I really like the look of those Hakkapeliitta I's ( I think they call them Norseman now). Very aggressive tread. We get a ton of snow here and starts as early late October sometimes. Studs are legal from Oct. 1 - Apr. 30 here. Thanks again.
