Default cassette to cd player

My dad wants to replace his stock radio/casette player with a stock cd player. What are the options regarding model numbers that will fit? Would a double din one fit if the cubby hole / cigarette lighter was removed?
Would the wiring for the optional cd changer be there as it is poverty spec model 1997 945.
Cheers Carl.

A double din will fit if you take out the cig lighter and cubby hole but it leaves a gap which dose not look very nice I tried it and in the end I fitted a standard size radio CD player with blue tooth and MP3 and a UsB on the front as I use memory sticks most of the time. it will also run a 10 disk changer.

I would just put a new one in but he wants a stock one hence the question. I guess a double din's out then!

Hi,

I looked into popping a unit in from the V90 (double din) but it would not fit as the fuse/relays got in the way.

My '96 had the cd changer cable in it. Pull your existing unit out and have a feel around for the cable. It is probably taped in a safe, out of the way position.

yes I had a look at the pdf catalogue and the CT505 seems to be the one to get.

Default More alternatives

I've also heard that CT-906 is a direct fit. There is one on eBay in Germany with 23 watchers myself included. Two problems with this one to my mind; firstly they want EUR 185 plus delivery for it and secondly it looks to be grey when the original fitment is black. If I were paying that much for it I'd want it to look impeccable.

The other alternative that I've been considering on/off for some time is to get something like this.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Car-Changer-.../dp/B0060OQOIC

I've no direct experience, but it looks like you can change MP3 tracks through the existing head unit like you might access an OEM CD changer fitted in the boot. The advantages I can see of this over a CD player is that you keep the original factory look (assuming you hide the unit away somewhere) plus you don't have to carry any actual CDs in the car.

Default ebay.de

There's also a CT-503 on German ebay for a lot less than that. My dad doesn't really do mp3's ! I think once a stock cd player is sourced getting the 6 or 10 cd holder shouldn't be too hard to find and I'll wire that in for him.
