V70 D3 'fails' the glove test + smoke from filler
Whenever I buy a new car I like to get a feel for the common issues, which in 2022 inevitably means the rabbit hole of Youtube. I came across a few folks testing their PCV with the 'glove test'. Inflation indicating a possible PCV issue. Most of these videos don't refer to the diesel engines however.
Out of intrigue, I gave it ago, and inevitably, it inflates. I have also noticed some smoke when removing the oil filler cap. I guess with the lack of vacuum, this correlates. Here is a video of both the glove and the smoke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge4q33sQVn4. It sounds terrible in the video but sounds and drives OK on the road, as far as I am concerned. It does seem to knock a bit with the filler cap off though. Is there an issue I need to investigate further here? I scanned for codes using the 'Car Scanner' app, and there was an 'inactive' code for 'P003A(85) Turbocharger/Supercharger boost pressure control A - learning limit exceeded'. This is recent, and I haven't seen it before. It's a D3 136BHP MY2014 with 93k miles. Recently purchased and have just done the cambelt etc, a transmission oil flush, the rear trailing arm bushes and service. The indie Volvo specialist felt it was all in good order, and with all that work they had spent a bit of time with the car, including a test drive. Your hive-wisdom welcome. Thank you.

My D3 makes that exact noise when I take the oil filler off and smokes also.
Not done the glove test. Sure I read previously about that test on the diesel engines and that it was normal for them to blow up.... Could be wrong. |

Hoping you’re right regarding the vacuum. As a person with limited knowledge, I was intrigued by the method and now feel compelled to follow up the result!
