Back in the summer I bought a cheapo Bluetooth adaptor to plug into the aux port on our V70. I was disappointed to find later that it doesn't work for phone - seems it's not supposed to.
Although I rarely have cause to make calls from the car, having the facility to get phone audio via the car audio system does make it a more pleasant experience. Can anyone suggest an aux-port Bluetooth adapter that'll do the job please? I guess Parrot might offer something, but they seem a bit pricey. I have no USB port by the way. Thanks.

If this is the USB socket in the central storage locker, it does not support phone usage. Does your car not have built in Bluetooth capability to connect the phone. My '12 XC70 Lux does. You just pair the phone with the car and it automatically runs the phone through the car audio system. Since I have no experience with any other V or XC 70 models, I don't know if this is specific to the year or the car spec.

[QUOTE=Pidgeonpost;2853961]No USB socket I'm afraid, just the Aux port in central locker. The car is a late 2007 registered 2008 model year and has no phone controls on the car itself so I guess there's no Bluetooth model sitting idle somewhere on the vehicle. I guess it was an optional extra 15 years ago.[/QUOTE
https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/22026548660 I use one of these in my 240, brilliant thing, tunes to car radio channel, plays music stick and Bluetooth for phone . Check them out , available for under a £tenner!

Sorry I didn't realise that your car didn't have these features at all. The broadcast to radio channel seems like a simple option at a cheap price. At that price it's worth giving it a go.
If you are prepared to lose the rear seat power point, why not plug in an extension cord with the smallest plug that you can find and run the cable into the central storage compartment where you can plug in the Bluetooth/broadcast gizmo and keep it there out of sight. I run an old stand-alone sat nav in that compartment allowing it to give just speed camera POIs audio warnings to supplement the built in sat nav which doesn't allow you to use your own notification sounds for POIs. That's so I can have warning about the exact nature of the "hazard" ahead and not just the bleep that Volvo allows. ![]() If that works for you, later you could fit a power socket in the back of the storage locker which is only a few centimetres away from the rear seat power socket from which you could hard wire a supply cable. Since the new parallel socket would only be powering a very low consumption electronics gizmo, there would be no risk of overloading the circuit.

That's because it's a completely different thing.
On the newer cars, like from 2012 (Sensus), there are two Bluetooth connections. One is (perhaps - I don't know for sure which profile they use) the HFP and the other A2DP. HandsFree Profile is use for the phone, Advanced Audio Distribution Profile to play music. Both profiles can be serviced by the same phone, or one each by two different phones. Your AUX input is just that, an input. So there's no way to connect a phone there. The person at the other end of the call would not hear you. Besides, it doesn't magically give you a microphone in the car either. Cars equipped with the handsfree function have a microphone in the ceiling. |

This perhaps explains why Parrot Bluetooth add-ons are considerably more expensive than the module I bought.

They are a bit more money, but I think a better option is something with a built-in speaker and Siri/Goggle Assistant voice command compatibility for hands-free usage. Like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125510533178
